John Alan Thompson credits his acute sense of color and light to being flung from the back of a speeding pickup truck at the tender age of thirteen. When he regained consciousness, he knew he wanted to be a filmmaker.

Several years later while attending USC Graduate Film School, John's short films began winning awards.

  • SONGBIRD screened at The Sundance Film Festival and on The Sundance Channel.
  • BREATHE was a Student Academy Award Finalist.
  • BLACK WHITE BLACK WHITE was an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival.

John has directed numerous music videos for bands you’ve never heard of and ads for companies you have heard of, like Google and Red Bull.

John's style is imaginative and playful with a dense, artful design and heartfelt character performances.

Most recently he has directed video sketches for the truTV series RACHEL DRATCHS LATE NIGHT SNACK and completed his most personal short film to date, LEND A HAND FOR LOVE, which won Best Comedy at the USC First Look Film Festival. It has screened at Australia’s Flicker Fest, Cinequest in Silicon Valley and The Cleveland International Film Festival.
